The 2025 remake of Silent Night, Deadly Night has achieved a record on Rotten Tomatoes. Starring Rohan Campbell, known from Halloween Ends, and Ruby Modine of Happy Death Day, this is the second time the 1984 Christmas horror film has been remade.
Despite being removed from cinemas quickly due to controversy over its portrayal of a Santa Claus-suited killer, the original Silent Night, Deadly Night became a beloved cult film and inspired a series of sequels. There have been seven Silent Night, Deadly Night movies made in total, but only the first two films and the two remakes were shown in theaters.
With the new version of Silent Night, Deadly Night now playing in theaters, Rotten Tomatoes has collected enough feedback from viewers to give it an official audience score. Over 50 people who bought tickets have rated the 2025 film, giving it a ‘Fresh’ rating of 79%. This is the highest score any movie in the Silent Night, Deadly Night series has ever received.
Before now, the highest score on the Popcornmeter for a Silent Night, Deadly Night movie was 40% (achieved by the 1984 film). The new 2025 remake has broken that record and is the first movie in the series to receive a ‘Fresh’ rating – a score of 60% or higher is needed to avoid a ‘Rotten’ designation.
People who have seen the movie really like it, with most giving it ratings of 4 or 5 out of 5 stars. Many viewers appreciate that it honors the original story while also offering something new. In a five-star review, one viewer, Matthew S, commented that it’s “not just a typical horror film,” reflecting what many others thought.
As a huge fan, I’m thrilled to share that the 2025 Silent Night, Deadly Night remake is getting amazing reviews! It actually earned the highest Rotten Tomatoes score of any film in the series – a fantastic 81% Fresh rating! That makes it only the second ‘Fresh’ movie in the franchise, beating out the 2012 remake’s 62%. I’ve included a look at how all the films have scored on both the Tomatometer and Popcornmeter so you can see for yourself!
| Title | Tomatometer | Popcornmeter |
| Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984) | 53% | 40% |
| Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2 (1987) | 30% | 27% |
| Silent Night, Deadly Night 3: Better Watch Out! (1989) | N/A | 11% |
| Silent Night, Deadly Night 4: Initiation (1990) | N/A | 17% |
| Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker (1991) | N/A | 23% |
| Silent Night (2012) | 62% | 33% |
| Silent Night, Deadly Night (2025) | 81% | 79% |
The horror movie about a killer Santa is getting a lot of buzz and is currently the highest-rated new release of the weekend, according to Popcornmeter. It’s even outperforming the score of the new dramedy Ella McCay (53%), which came out on the same day.
If people continue to enjoy the new Silent Night, Deadly Night and it does well in theaters, on demand, and through streaming services, we might see another movie in the series much sooner than the 13 years it took last time.
