15 Best Animated Shows On Disney+

Disney+ has a fantastic selection of animated series, with options for everyone. You’ll find both classic shows you loved as a kid and more mature comedies, meaning there’s always something to watch, no matter your age or what kind of story you’re looking for.

Honestly, with everything on Disney+, it’s hard to know where to start! But I’ve found that these 15 animated shows are consistently the best. They really cover all the bases – from amazing Star Wars series to comedies that will have you in stitches. No matter what you’re into or how old you are, I’m pretty sure there’s something in this collection for everyone.

Futurama

Futurama features a truly unique cast of characters, including robots and a very old scientist. The show follows a pizza delivery guy who wakes up 1,000 years in the future and has exciting adventures with his new, eccentric friends – it’s a hilarious ride!

The story is wonderfully bizarre and captivating. It’s easily among the best fifteen shows out there, but it doesn’t quite reach the level of the very top series on this list.

Hercules: The Animated Series

Disney+

This show on Disney+ is a real find and doesn’t get nearly enough attention. If you enjoyed the Disney movie released last year, you’ll especially love this one.

I absolutely loved the Hercules animated series! It’s set during the time of the original 1997 movie and really dives into how Hercules became the hero we all know. The show beautifully portrays those formative years he spent learning from his trainer, Phil the satyr. It’s a shame it only lasted 65 episodes, and sadly, it didn’t stay popular for very long after it ended, but I still cherish those episodes!

Even if you’re not a huge Disney enthusiast, this series is genuinely touching and brings back fond memories. It’s full of references to the original film and other Disney classics – for example, there’s an episode where Hades brings back Jafar, the villain from Aladdin.

Gravity Falls

Gravity Falls is a fun show with a great mix of mystery, comedy, and supernatural elements, making it enjoyable for a wide range of viewers. The characters Dipper and Mabel are particularly memorable – they’re funny, genuine, and offer a positive message about being yourself.

During a summer vacation, twin siblings spend time with their great-uncle Stan, assisting him at his quirky tourist attraction, The Mystery Shack. While staying with him, one of the twins, Dipper, finds a journal filled with long-held secrets and hints of danger lurking in the town of Gravity Falls.

While originally aimed at a younger audience, the show is actually enjoyable for everyone. It explores important ideas about finding yourself and believing in yourself, and it’s great to see unique heroes protecting their community.

Over The Garden Wall

Cartoon Network Studios

It’s a really unusual show, which is exactly what makes it so interesting. The story follows two half-brothers who get lost in a magical forest and must complete a series of bizarre challenges to find their way back home.

Elijah Wood voices Greg, the oldest and most anxious brother, who tries to keep everyone focused during their adventure. The show is short and sweet – just 10 episodes, each around 10 minutes long. You can easily watch the whole thing in under two hours, making it a great option if you’re looking for something movie-length.

The animation is beautiful and uses cozy, warm colors, making it a great show to watch in the fall and winter. It features memorable songs and a lovely soundtrack, setting it apart from other series on Disney+.

The Simpsons

As a lifelong movie and TV fan, I have to admit The Simpsons is a total game-changer. It’s been on for over thirty years and basically invented the kind of animated show we see everywhere now – you can really see its influence on everything that followed. But, honestly, even with all that, I don’t think it’s quite at the very top of my list.

The show centers on the quirky Simpson family and their everyday adventures in the lively and unpredictable town of Springfield. It’s become a huge hit, spawning both feature films and a dedicated area at Universal Studios.

It’s tough to give this show a lower ranking, but the quality definitely slipped as it went on, and some of the humor felt a bit lazy. Even so, it’s still a must-see and one of the best shows available on the streaming service.

Eyes Of Wakanda

“Eyes of Wakanda” is a fantastic, lesser-known show on Disney+ that truly deserves to be among the platform’s best. Launched this year, the series delves into the rich history of Wakanda, adding depth to the world of Black Panther.

Eyes of Wakanda journeys through time, visiting eras like 1260 B.C. and Ancient Greece. The story follows Wakandan warriors on a mission to recover vibranium artifacts and prevent this powerful resource from being exploited by enemies.

The animation blends Afrofuturism with the familiar Marvel universe. It’s more mature in tone than other Marvel animated shows, making the action sequences feel especially impactful. If you’re a Marvel enthusiast seeking a more substantial story, Eyes of Wakanda is an excellent pick.

Recess

Disney+

Recess brilliantly shows how ordinary places, like a school playground, can become incredibly imaginative worlds. The show centers on six close friends and their adventures dealing with the complex social dynamics of recess.

Fourth-grade recess is like a world with its own unspoken laws, and ‘King Bob’ seems to be in charge! It’s hilarious, but also captures exactly what it felt like to be a kid in elementary school.

Beyond the funny jokes and over-the-top characters, Recess actually explores important themes like power, friendship, and self-discovery. It’s a show that appeals to people of all ages and holds up well no matter how old you are. It’s rare to find a cartoon that captures the experience of being a kid so realistically while still being genuinely fun to watch.

Star Wars: Visions

Everett

This Star Wars project is particularly ambitious, mainly because of its unique animation. It draws heavily from anime styles, blending the talents of animation studios from around the world into a single, cohesive artistic vision.

This show presents self-contained stories taking place in the Star Wars universe, bringing back familiar faces like Jabba the Hutt and Boba Fett. While it explores the classic themes of the Force and the Jedi, it uses a fresh visual style to offer a new experience.

The show balances heartfelt stories with exciting action sequences. Each episode tells a complete story, making it easy for new viewers to jump in, but it also offers longtime Star Wars fans a satisfying experience and highlights the vast possibilities within that universe.

Phineas and Ferb

Everett

Even after 18 years, this show remains endlessly entertaining. It follows two stepbrothers who get into wild misadventures during their summer break, all while their sister, Candace, repeatedly tries – and fails – to convince their mom about their antics.

The show centers around two stepbrothers who constantly look for things to do. One of the most popular parts of the series was Dr. Doofenshmirtz, a villain whose battles with Perry the Platypus were always exciting to watch.

This series is fantastic because of its clever writing and memorable songs that still stick with you. It’s full of funny, quotable moments and lovable characters, making it one of the most enjoyable Disney Channel animated shows to watch again and again.

Spider-Man: The Animated Series

Fox Kids Network

Even with all the popular Spider-Man movies that came out later, the 1994 animated series is still considered one of the best versions of the superhero. The show centers on Peter Parker as he juggles fighting crime with his normal life.

Honestly, the idea of a high schooler battling supervillains while trying to pass chemistry sounds ridiculous, right? But what’s cool about this series is that it doesn’t play it for laughs. It takes the whole thing seriously, and that’s what really makes it different and grabs you. It avoids over-the-top silliness and just… tells the story straight, which is surprisingly effective.

Back in the ’90s, most animated series didn’t feature ongoing, emotionally powerful storylines. However, the Spider-Man series of that era did just that. It also played a key role in introducing many fans to beloved Marvel characters who are now iconic.
