$132 Million Horror Sequel To Stream on Netflix After Peacock

Next month, a $132 million horror film starring Ethan Hawke and Mason Thames will be available on Netflix. The movie was previously a hit on Peacock, where it quickly became one of the most-watched titles. It originally came out in theaters last year and received mostly good reviews.

Black Phone 2 sets Netflix streaming release date

The movie Black Phone 2 will be available to stream on Netflix starting May 16, 2026, according to What’s on Netflix. This is happening because of a deal between Universal Pictures, the film’s distributor, and Netflix. As part of the agreement, Netflix will be the exclusive streaming home for Universal’s live-action movies for 10 months, after they’ve first been available on Peacock for 4 months.

The follow-up to the 2021 horror film, The Black Phone, first became available on Peacock on January 16, 2026. It quickly gained a large audience and became one of the most-watched titles on the streaming service.

Four years after the last story, Gwen Blake starts having disturbing dreams about three boys being murdered. These visions lead her to convince her brother, Finney, and their friend, Ernesto, to go with her to Alpine Lake Camp. The camp is haunted by the Grabber, the masked serial killer Finney defeated previously. Once there, the three friends start looking into the stories of the Grabber’s first victims, hoping to solve the mystery surrounding them.

The sequel to Black Phone, titled Black Phone 2, was released in the US on October 17, 2025. While it earned $132 million worldwide, this was less than the original film’s global earnings of $161.4 million.

Critics and audiences both generally liked the film. It has a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes with scores of 72% from critics and 82% from viewers. Metacritic gave it a ‘generally favorable’ score of 61, while users rated it a 5.9, which is considered mixed.

Scott Derrickson returned to direct the sequel, again working with C. Robert Cargill, who co-wrote the script with him – just as they did on the first movie. They also both produced the film, alongside Jason Blum from Blumhouse Productions.

The film stars returning cast members Madeleine McGraw, Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Jeremy Davies, and the late James Ransone, who reprise their roles as Gwen, the Grabber, Finney, Terrence, and Max. New to the cast are Miguel Mora, Demián Bichir, Arianna Rivas, Maev Baety, Graham Abbey, and Anna Lore.
