Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 1
The second season of Daredevil: Born Again has arrived, with the first episode launching the latest conflict between Mayor Fisk and Daredevil. The new Marvel series is full of exciting references to the previous Netflix shows and includes plenty of hidden details and Easter eggs for fans to discover right from the start.
After a thrilling debut episode that sets up new conflicts in New York, here are 10 of the most noticeable Easter eggs, returning themes, and references we spotted in the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 2.
Mayor Fisk’s New York: Born Again Posters
Citywide campaign posters display the slogan “New York: Born Again,” linking to Mayor Fisk’s plan to revitalize the city through increased safety measures and a tough crackdown on vigilantes. The slogan also references the title and story of the popular Disney+ show and comic book series of the same name.
Daredevil’s Double D Logo Finally Debuts
As a long-time Daredevil fan, I can’t believe it’s taken 13 years since the Netflix series, but we finally have a Daredevil costume that truly feels pulled from the comics with the classic double-D logo! It’s a huge moment for me. And honestly, the red logo looks fantastic against what appears to be his original red suit, now cleverly updated with a black spray-painted effect. It’s a great look!
“Give Her A Call” – Jessica Jones?
I overheard Matt talking with Karen about the recent disaster with The Northern Star – apparently, it sank right in Mayor Fisk’s port, Red Hook. What’s even more concerning is that the ship was packed with serious weaponry and military equipment. It immediately made me wonder who Fisk is connected to and where those weapons were headed. Matt felt the same way and asked Karen to reach out to a contact for information – he told her to ‘give her a call’ and find out what she could.
It seems likely that Karen Page is connected to Jessica Jones (played by Krysten Ritter), who is confirmed to appear in the show. With her background as an investigator, she’ll probably be a big asset to Daredevil’s fight, and she also has powerful abilities of her own.
A Favor At Metro-General (Night Nurse)
Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple
During a moment similar to a possible Jessica Jones mention in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, Karen offers to pull some strings at Metro-General Hospital to get Matt stitches.
Okay, so this definitely feels like a nod to Rosario Dawson’s character, Claire Temple – you probably know her as Night Nurse. During those Marvel Netflix days, she was a constant presence at Metro-General as a nurse, but she also had this amazing side hustle patching up all the heroes and vigilantes who kept getting beat up. It was a great way to connect those different street-level shows!
Given her previous roles in several of the Netflix Defenders series, it would be logical for Rosario Dawson to return in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. This is especially likely considering her continued work with Disney, including her portrayal of Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars.
As a movie fan, I always love spotting little connections, and it’s neat to remember that both Doctor Strange and Christine Palmer actually worked at the same hospital – Metro-General – in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s those details that really make the world feel connected!
Thunderbolts* Director de Fontaine
Okay, so right after Matthew Lillard’s character shows up at Kingpin’s place, he drops a bomb – he’s CIA! And it doesn’t stop there. We even get a phone call from Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, the head of the CIA and the OXE Group, confirming that this guy, ‘Mr. Charles,’ is legit and has the proper connections. It’s a lot to take in, but it definitely sets things up for something bigger!
Val has strong connections within the US government, proven by her appearances in various Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, including Thunderbolts. It makes sense she’s involved with Mr. Charles, potentially because they’re both linked to the mysterious cargo from The Northern Star and its use in secret government activities.
Red Kitchen Codename
When looking at Cherry’s messages, it’s revealed that Matt is saved in her phone under the code name “Red Kitchen.” This makes their communication and plans to meet appear as simple dinner arrangements.
The project’s name cleverly nods to two things: Daredevil’s classic red suit and Hell’s Kitchen, the New York neighborhood where he began fighting crime in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – and first faced off against Wilson Fisk’s Kingpin.
New AVTF Uniforms (With Punisher Logo)
Okay, so in season two of Daredevil: Born Again, we’re seeing Fisk’s crew step up their game visually. They’ve got proper uniforms and even some armor now, which feels like a bigger threat. What’s really interesting – and a little unsettling – is the new branding. They’re incorporating The Punisher’s logo into their designs, which highlights how many of Fisk’s people are, frankly, misguided fans of Frank Castle. It’s a clever detail that shows just how warped their sense of justice is.
Since the Punisher isn’t planned to be in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, it’s a nice way to acknowledge his important role in the first season. This also might be leading up to his new Marvel project, Punisher: One Last Kill, which is scheduled to come out shortly after the Born Again season finale.
Either way, it’s also pretty cool that Punisher will be in July’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Ben Urich (From Netflix’s Daredevil Season 1)

BB Urich, a journalist, is determined to expose Mayor Fisk for the murder of her uncle, a tragedy depicted in the first season of the Netflix series Daredevil.
Karen Page reveals to Foggy Nelson that she believes Ben Urich’s death was her fault, and she’s afraid Foggy will suffer the same fate. She urges him to be cautious, secretly admitting she’s been feeding him information about Wilson Fisk’s dealings as a confidential source. The show also includes a quick flashback of Ben Urich.
With a new group stepping up to aid Daredevil, the discussion highlights how Wilson Fisk’s violence and corruption continue to affect those who previously tried to reveal his crimes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Daredevil’s “Borderline Psychotic Sensei” (Stick)
Karen was amazed by how quickly Matt moved during training and asked him his secret. He explained that his years of training with a remarkably intense teacher, Stick, were a major factor. Stick served as Matt’s mentor during the Netflix series.
Stick trained Matt, leveraging his heightened senses to compensate for his blindness. This training aimed to prepare Matt for a conflict with The Hand, a dangerous ninja group that’s unexpectedly returning in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as previewed in the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Stick died in The Defenders at the hands of a mind-controlled Elektra Natchios, but his teachings continue to benefit Matt Murdock.
“You’re Welcome” – Some Surprising Help From Bullseye
In the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, Cherry has a heart attack when she and Matt are attacked by the AVTF. This throws Matt off balance, letting the officers gain the upper hand and even remove Daredevil’s mask. But before they can react, a hidden shooter quickly and fatally wounds each of the officers. A knife then flies into the room, bouncing off the walls and stopping right in front of Matt’s face.
The knife clearly displays the message “You’re Welcome” and the crosshair symbol you probably recognize.
Wilson Bethel returns as Bullseye, and he’s the one who unexpectedly comes to Daredevil’s rescue. Bullseye managed to slip away during the dramatic events at the end of Born Again‘s first season, and now he seems to have his own plans. This time around, he’s not focused on helping Fisk target Daredevil for arrest or death.
New episodes of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 release Tuesday nights on Disney+.
