‘Jordskott’ (2015 – 2017)
The crime drama *Jordskott* premiered in 2014. It centers on Eva Thörnblad (played by Moa Gammel), a Stockholm police detective who returns to her childhood home seven years after her daughter disappeared near a lake. The daughter’s body was never recovered, and she was presumed to have drowned. Soon after Eva’s return, another boy vanishes, prompting her to investigate possible connections between the two cases.
Okay, so this series really digs into family stuff – Eva has to return home after her dad dies and suddenly she’s running his huge lumber business, which is basically the heart of the town. But things get complicated because the business comes under the microscope as a detective, Göran Ragnerstam, and Eva start looking into some serious cases. They end up working together, which is a cool dynamic to watch.
‘Sthlm Requiem’ (2018)
In the TV series *Sthlm Requiem*, Liv Mjönes stars as Fredrika Bergman, an unusual criminologist who investigates crimes in Stockholm. The show is based on Kristina Ohlsson’s book series, and follows Fredrika as she joins a special police unit. Her new colleagues aren’t immediately friendly, largely due to her eccentric personality.
She quickly proves her crime-solving techniques work well. Bergman is skilled at handling tough cases, which makes her a great addition to the team. The show also features Jonas Karlsson, Alexej Manvelov, and Magnus Roosmann. Even though it was based on a series of books, the show only ran for one season.
‘Trom’ (2022)
Trom features Ulrich Thomsen as Hannis Marinsson, a journalist unexpectedly contacted by a daughter he never knew existed. She tells him she’s in serious trouble, but when he reaches her, she’s already dead. While the police believe she drowned, Marinsson doubts their conclusion and suspects she may have been murdered because of her political activism, adding a layer of political intrigue to the series.
The detective investigating Sonja’s death, portrayed by Maria Rich, is secretly working towards their own goals and intentionally slowing down the case. The six-episode series was created by Torfinnur Jákupsson and filmed primarily in the Faroe Islands.

This leads to a joint effort between Swedish detective Saga Norén (played by Sofia Helin) and Danish investigator Martin Rohde (Kim Bodnia) to solve the case.
This series follows the detectives as they investigate a case, highlighting their working partnership and the personal struggles it creates for each of them. It was a critically acclaimed show, winning many awards and being successfully remade for television in seven different regions, including versions set in the UK and France, the US and Mexico, Estonia and Russia, Malaysia and Singapore, Germany and Austria, Greece and Turkey, and India.
‘Der Usedom-Krimi’ (2014 – 2025)
I just finished watching “Der Usedom-Krimi,” and it’s a cozy mystery set on the beautiful Baltic Sea island of Usedom. The show centers around a really interesting mother-daughter team – Karin Lossow, played by Katrin Sass, is a former prosecutor, and her daughter, Julia Thiel (Lisa Maria Potthoff), is a detective. Together, they solve crimes on the island, and their dynamic is definitely a highlight. If you’re looking for a relaxing, character-driven mystery, this one’s worth checking out.

Rolf Lassgård returns as Erik Backstrom in a TV series based on the movies *The Hunters* and *False Trail*. The show, written by the same team behind the films, lasted for two seasons of six episodes each. Backstrom is a former detective who secretly solves murder cases. The first season centers around the death of a mining executive he used to know. In the second season, Erik reopens a 15-year-old case involving a woman’s death after her convicted boyfriend is released due to new evidence.
Annika Nordin returns as Erik’s sister, a role she previously played in *False Trail*. Johan Marenius Nordahl joins the cast as Erik’s nephew, who is a new police officer. The series takes place in Alvsbyn, Sweden, and the first season came out seven years after *False Trail*.
